This is a close up of the Gaboon viper that I saw at a traveling reptile show when it was in MA a few years ago. Let me tell you, best cryptic coloration ever. They are extremely docile, and rather hide than fight, but their coloration is so good that they end up being one of highest snake bite perpetrators in their native area (west/central Africa) because people don't see them and step on them. It is really a beautiful snake, its scales almost looked like butterfly wings, they looked almost soft (possibly the reason for one of its other common names, the butterfly adder).

I wish I could have felt this beautiful creature...

Gaboon Viper ...
man the scales are just so vibrant !!!!

seem to create an illusion of some sort ... i just love this snake too !!!

i wish i had the courage to touch a snake ... but i fright away at the sight of one unexpectedly appearing in front of me !!

Thanks! Yeah, it just completely breaks up their shape, so when they are midst a pile of leaves, you can't see them at all. Its amazing!

I love snakes, I have one of my own (a couple pictures of her are in my gallery). Each species of snake, or at least different type of scales feel different. I would love to know what a Gaboon Viper feels like.

yeah ... we have had sand boas at our school campus ... which is so beautiful... they looks soo calm ... and peaceful ... i just feel like being in their place !!

but in general vipers are my favorite kinda snakes ... epically the "pit viper"

ooh, pretty. Snakes are much more beautiful than people give them credit for.

Vipers are really interesting, they are the most recently evolved snake, and they've got a lot of "features" compared to some of the older species
